> Enjoying Dinner with Al Gore

Geoffrey Gourley, Sustainability Leader and an Al Gore Climate Project Connector, was privileged to attend an intimate dinner with the Honorable Al Gore on Sunday 13 July 2009, during Gore’s recent visit to Melbourne as part of the Asia Pacific Climate Summit. Geoffrey was seated along side Senator Christine Milne - Greens Tasmania, Don Henry and Danny Vadasz from Australian Conservation Foundation and approx 100 other fascinating guests. Al Gore spoke for 30 min about his climate project, the Asia Pacific Summit and training he is delivering to 300 participants from across 19 countries including China, Singapore, New Zealand, Fiji and Indonesia. Mr Gourley said, “This is the first time people from the Asia-Pacific region have been brought together to be trained by the Honorable Al Gore”. Mr Gourley went on to say “it is inspiring to hear Al Gore speak so passionately about The Climate Project”. The summit enables them to communicate directly with their communities about generating a combined effort to insist, as a region, on the best possible outcomes at Copenhagen later this year. Mr Gourley, on Tuesday 25 November 2008, successfully graduates from ‘Future Sustainability Leadership’ program. Geoff was privileged to accept a Leadership scholarship from Centre for Sustainability Leadership www.csl.org.au at the start of this year, after being selected from hundreds of applications; he is one of a number of Future Sustainability Leaders in Australia.

Geoff was privileged to accept a Leadership scholarship from Centre for Sustainability Leadership at the start of this year, after being selected from hundreds of applications; he is one of a number of Future Sustainability Leaders in Australia. The ‘FSL’ program is scholarship-based eight-month fellowship for top emerging sustainability leaders that includes weekly workshops, creating innovative sustainability projects, retreats and mentorship from top leaders. Graduates are supported by an Alumni Program and many have gone on to become passionate communicators of sustainability as members of the Speakers Bureau. The Future Sustainability Leadership program started in Melbourne in 2005 and will be going global in 2009. “I invite you, to join with me, in shaping our future, making a contribution to preserving our beautiful planet and create a pathway for all future generations to live sustainably”. Gourley said, “My genuine and authentic passion to make a positive impact to sustainability enterprise is why I became a Future Sustainability Leader”. He further said, “I want to lead, develop and accelerate businesses and community to a sustainable future and create a long term legacy of sustainability within the Australian culture”. Geoff said, “I started my first business at 19Yo while completing further education in Melbourne, that business signified my love and passion for business, development and sustainability, I had already fallen in love with the environment from a young age”. Geoff is founder and CEO of Turn Me Green, a sustainability consultancy company, Sustainability Central - launching early 2009, a business and social centre for start-up enterprise and Shape Our Future a Not-for-Profit organisation that is helping to define visions for a sustainable Australia.
